MICROBIAL THERMOHALINE ACCLIMATION

Cell membranes and the extracellular matrix of marine bacteria have a key role in their adaptation to the environment where they thrive. We aim at understanding how relevant marine microbes adapt to thermohaline conditions from the molecular to the cellular level

REMINERALIZATION OF MARINE GLYCANS

Glycans represent one of the most important carbon reservoirs in the ocean and marine bacteria have a key role in their processing and mineralization. We are interested in understanding the mechanisms used by marine bacteria to degrade polysaccharides, including their complex enzymatic machinery.

MICROBIAL MERCURY DETOXIFICATION

Marine bacteria display an array of cellular and metabolic strategies to detoxify pollutants from their environment which can be applied as biotechnology tools. We are interested in using marine bacteria to detoxify mercury, a powerful pollutant with impact on the environment and human health.
